Parents puppy!

My parents new dog. he's virtually dander free so their allergies don't go crazy with him. They got him at the pound but he's a pure breed and has records going back like 5 generations. He's trained and everything! SO cute and lovable! He looks old but is only 11 months- I call him old man wiskers but his name is D.O.G and said Diogi. It's silly but cute at the same time.

Nerts

This is the name of probably one of the most chaotic card games I've ever played in my life!

Last night Sally and Asher Barrett and Danielle Gawronski came over to play games. The Barretts wanted to teach us their favorite game of all time... Nerts. It is madness! Each player gets an entire deck of cards. You count out 13 in one stack with the top card up and set out 4 cards face up to the side of that stack. The stack is called the Nerts stack. You proceed to play solitaire on the 4 cards drawing only every third card out of the remaining pile of cards. Each time you have the opportunity, you play the top card off the nerts pile. The object of the game is to get rid of the Nerts stack (each leftover card is worth 2 pts). Now here is where the madness begins, the way you score points in by playing the center stacks. How this works is when anyone has an Ace they place it in the center and all the players can play on that card adding the same type and color card to the stack- it's a race really to get your card on the stack before the other players do. For every card you have out in the center you get 1 pt. Still doesn't sound that ridiculous yet?.... well imagine having 5 players, each player has 4 aces, which means that at any time you may have 20 stacks of cards in the center you are trying to watch and move your cards to, while playing your own game of solitaire, and trying to be the first one to call NERTS! The game is over at that point and you count how many nerts cards you still have (4 cards would be -8 pts) and count how many you actually got out in the center. You play until one player reach 100. The first game I ended with an incredible final score of 1 pt. and by the second game I think I made it to 34. I'm not a fan of chaos so every couple minutes I lost all train of thought and couldn't stop thinking about how I really wanted to organize the stacks in the center.

It was really fun though. I hadn't seen the Barretts or Danielle in ages and it was great to be able to catch up and chat about our lives and all. Time is passing too quickly....

Happy Valentines Day!

Just wanted to wish everyone a good day. Nothing has happened for me quite yet but I still have half a day! I know Johnny is making dinner, that's exciting! But for now I'm stuck at school... pilates has been kicking my butt this week. I know that doesn't sound possible for pilates to be hard but trust me it is and my teacher is kickin it into high gear this semester and moving much quicker than last semester. Feel the burn! My inner thighs are killing me.

Later that day... hehe

Johnny brought home star lillies for me and made dinner- salmon and garlic mashed potatoes with an appetizer of artichoke dip. It was nice that he cooked for me. We then proceeded to talk for a couple hours. No TV, no distractions, we just layed there on the couch relaxed in the candle light. Sometimes low key is the best!

oww

Does anyone know what it means when you get stomach cramps (like spurts of pain) for like 3 days straight? I don't think it's sickness, I don't feel bad anywhere else, but I don't know what to do. I've tried tums, pepto, and gas pills and none work so I'm starting to think maybe it's an allergy to something. Girls just picture period cramps but higher, it's not very comfortable at all! The only thing that seems to work is curling up into a little ball....

Super Bowl XLII

As most of the world knows that yesterday was the biggest holiday for the American people. As people gathered together at friend's houses and as the dip and chips begin to break open we all gather together to watch two teams decide who will be the greatest team for an entire year.
Most super bowls are entertaining but some of them just leave you wanting for more. This game did just that. The entire game was a heart pounding, non-stop, thriller from the opening kick-off to the last play of the game. It was great to see non-football fans get into the spirit of things.
I don't feel like I have to go into detail about the game but all I know is that in the spirit of celebration and the constant screaming and jumping around like monkeys that I got poked in the eye by Nick Crespo. We were both so excited about what just happened that as he came to give me a hi-5, we sort of missed and he poked me in the right eye. It hurt. But with all that adrenaline flowing I didn't really feel a thing. I feel a bit sore today but I guess that is the price to pay while watching a great football game.

I DID IT!

Refresh

I remember back when I was a little kid and I wasn't that big a fan of church... for a brief period I felt in was unnecessary to go to church and I could have just as strong a relationship with God without going.

Over the past 5 months we haven't been able to go to church that often. Johnny's job always seems to conflict. I went into a brief slump but then had to push myself to really desire my relationship with my savior. In turn, I think it has actually been more rekindled than it was when I was going to church all the time. Both Johnny and I have had to actually seek God on our own and stand firm for Christ even in our secular environments. We could not rely on the constant accountability of those at the church; sometime I feel Christians get drawn into the trap of trying to please other Christians and look like a good Christian and end up not focusing on their own walk with their Father. This separation, having to do it for us, to keep up with our walk even when no one really is watching, has been so good for us.

Now, after all that, I am NOT saying going to church is bad. In fact, God knew exactly what He was doing in providing us a group of brothers and sisters to gather with in His name. When we actually get to go, we are refreshed in a way that's so God helping us through. We sometimes forget why it is so great to attend and our flesh pulls us into laziness. I wish I wouldn't forget!

Yesterday we went to church. It was the first time in a long time that we were able to go and didn't have to leave right away so Johnny could get to work. Fellowship with other believers does something for your soul. It is encouraging, lifts you up, brings you some joy, and is all around just fabulous! We went to the 9:30 service and ended up staying on campus all the way through the last service. We talked in the sanctuary and in the cafe and in the book store just catching up with friends. Talking about life and what God is showing us. I felt so rejuvenated when we were leaving. It's great to go and learn about God's will for our lives and just spend time with those we love! Don't underestimate the benefits of fellowship and learning... I guess that's mostly what I'm getting at.
